GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - In a groundbreaking move towards diversity and inclusivity in aviation, Gwinnett County Airport's Briscoe Field is set to host Lookup Flight Academy, LLC, the area's premier Black-owned pilot school. With the Board of Commissioners' recent approval, the academy secured a 25-year lease for a 2.3-acre site, including a hangar building and ramp, marking a pivotal moment in addressing the underrepresentation of minority pilots in the industry.

Founded by aviator and entrepreneur Michael Ojo, Lookup Flight Academy is not only a flight school but a beacon of hope and opportunity for aspiring aviators from all backgrounds. Emphasizing mentorship, hands-on learning, and a commitment to diversity, the academy aims to empower underrepresented communities in the world of aviation.

"Pilotage demands doing the hard thing, regardless of gender or wealth," said Ojo. "It requires equal attention from all, as your life and future hinge on it. Embrace the challenge!"

What sets Lookup Flight Academy apart is its strategic relocation from Smith Reynolds Airport in Winston-Salem, NC, to Briscoe Field (KLZU). Nestled just 31 miles away from the bustling airspace of Atlanta International Airport (KATL), Briscoe Field provides a unique advantage. This Class B airport allows students to navigate their training in airspace less congested, ensuring they develop the confidence and skills needed to operate in some of the busiest airports worldwide.

With plans to renovate its hangar facility, Lookup Flight Academy is poised to create an optimal learning environment, preparing student pilots to soar with confidence. The academy anticipates being fully operational and ready to welcome aspiring aviators by the summer, marking a new era in aviation education and diversity.
